Sony warns reform needed before smartphone make money

Tokyo:struggling Sony warned Thursday it needs to carry out years of root and branch reform before it can turn around its smartphone arm.
Painful changes ahead said:The Japanese consumer giant fresh from revealing a 172 billion yen operating loses in the mobile communication segment for the latest quarter.
Hiroki Totoki said:we must carried out structural reform before we can launch new business.
He told market analyst in Tokyo:Device with communication functions have the potential to develop.
The once mighty Sony last month announced 109.1 billion yen six month loss the latest in a series.
Even the sharply weaker yen,which has plunged to around 118 to the dollar against about 80 two years ago cannot Smoth over the gaping holes.In any case analyst warn,the effect of the currency shift is fading and industry household name have more work to do on themselves.Sony has said it with cut global staff number in the smartphone unit by 15 percent about 1000 jobs.
The business had been hit by weaker then expected results in emerging markets and a full blooded challenge from global rivals including samsung and apple.
Tatoki said:I think we need to make more use of Sony technologies.we have great technologies atleast in this fields.
The comments came after he was asked about Sony past failures in focusing on high end consumers including it Vaio personal  computer business.
Sony shared Jumped 6.12 percent to 2,582.5 yen on Tuesday.
